Now is the Time to Start Increasing Gratitude

Your results show that you are part of an organization that is doing so much right, but your gratitude score is not as high as it should be. This could be the result of many factors, however, it all leads to the same result: your team may not be feeling the level of gratitude that they deserve.

When gratitude is running a bit low, employees slowly, or sometimes quickly, start looking for another job. What will it cost to replace them? An organization that is not actively working to show gratitude to its employees is encouraging them to find a better place to work. Now is the time to strategize how you’re going to keep the core of your team intact. Especially as companies become more remote, the methods of gratitude we employ are going to become increasingly more nuanced. A ping-pong table isn’t going to do your remote workforce any good. The future of business is not around the corner; it’s in the Zoom meeting in front of you. Are you actively choosing to show your team how grateful you are for their efforts?

Gratitude is not simply civility; it is a business skill that top brands utilize across the globe. If you think this score doesn’t reflect your organization, ask yourself how this question would be answered company-wide: “Does senior leadership care about my wellbeing?” If you think there would be some grumbling or you aren’t sure, you need to shore up your strategy today or pay for it tomorrow.

Some of the methods you are going to use will be systematic changes to the way you approach HR. You are going to employ new ways of checking in on your team; communicate beyond stodgy, company-wide blasts; and get granular with your appreciation. These will all vary depending on your unique circumstances—there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Regardless of the tack you take, the gratitude revolution in any company begins with senior leaders committing to a better relationship with their team.

Your best defense is making this the place to work today. If you want to commit to making a lasting change in your brand’s identity, let’s talk.
